Whanganui Wharf One Upgrade

LOCATION Whanganui Wharf One Upgrade    PRINCIPAL Whanganui District Council   PROJECT DATES February 2016 to November 2016

Design and refurbishment of a 100m long wharf. Works included timber pile repairs, timber bent replacement and refurbishment, sheet-piling, tie beams & deadmen, engineered fill, insitu concrete suspended deck and concrete pavement. Works also included demolition of 50m of the existing wharf.

Quality Achievement:  A CSL Project Quality Plan was produced and followed in accordance with our AS/NZS ISO9001 certification. There were no significant remedial works required.

Time Management:  The overall project was completed 3 weeks ahead of the due date.

Budget Management:  The project was carried out in an operational wharf so work was carried out in stages to suit shipping movements.  Due to the site constraints and the operational port, the design and build meant that the build process could be controlled in stages to suit the ports operational requirements, and CSL could input design features that would allow for fast construction and reduced overall cost.  This in turn produced a $2 Million saving to the client.

Health & Safety:  Health and Safety Plan implemented and observed in accordance with the company’s secondary level requirements for ACC WSMP. There were zero LTIs.

Environmental:  CSL was committed to providing comprehensive Environmental Management throughout the project. Appropriate environmental protection measures such spill procedures and careful management of construction materials ensured that all activities have been safely carried out within the environmental requirements.  There were no environmental incidents on this project.

Traffic Management:  A specific traffic management plan was produced to control the movement of site traffic and machinery for this project.

Public Relations & Cooperative team approach:  CSL maintained good rapport with subcontractors and stakeholders. Work was well planned to minimize the impact on other operations within the site.

Management/Administration:  All aspects of management requirements were met including reporting, communications, financial control and risk management.
