Taupo Control Gates Scour Repairs

LOCATION Waikato River, Control Gates, Taupo    PRINCIPAL ECNZ   PROJECT DATES February 1997 to March 1997

The supply and installation of 30 sheet piles driven 1m into the riverbed with a 50t crane and vibro hammer for the construction of a retaining wall (including anchor blocks and tiebacks) to control erosion on the Waikato River at Taupo Control Gates.  Works also included the placement of 3500t of riprap to repair scour holes.

Health & Safety:  Health and Safety Plan implemented and observed in accordance with the company’s secondary level requirements for ACC WSMP. There were zero LTIs or serious incidents.

Traffic Management:  A specific traffic management plan was produced for this project.  The initial contract period was due to fall over the Christmas and New Year period when the Taupo population and traffic flows increase significantly, the project was therefore delayed until February to minimise disruption.
