Tidal Creek No.2 Bridge

LOCATION Tidal Creek No.2 Bridge, Karamea    PRINCIPAL Buller District Council   PROJECT DATES Jan 2021 – June 2021

Construction of a 26m long Single span hollow core bridge over Tidal Creek Stream, Karamea. Works included construction of a 32m span temporary road bridge, Demolition of the existing bridge structure, installation of 14no. Driven steel UC Piles (15m deep), in-situ bridge abutments, manufacture and supply of 8no. 25.2m long single hollow core beams, 4no. Precast wingwalls, and the bulk earthworks and road works to form the new approaches up to bridge deck level.

Following its successful completion this project was put forward by WSP for the IPWEA NZ Asset Management Excellence Awards 2021 and was the Winner of ‘Best Public Works Project Under $2 Million’. 

Time Management: The project was completed ahead of time.  Original completion date was 8th August 2021. Practical Completion for the entire project was issued on 11th June 2021 coinciding with the completion of approach works and the opening of the Karamea highway to 2 lanes.

Quality Achievement: A CSL Project Quality Plan was produced and followed in accordance with our ISO9001 certification. There were no significant defects of remedial works required. There were no disputes arising from this project.
