Saddle Road Bridge

LOCATION Saddle Road, Ashhurst    PRINCIPAL Palmerston North City Council   PROJECT DATES April 2006 to November 2006

Construction of a 146m long, 3 No x 46m spans, fabricated steel I beams c/w thermal metal arc spray, and a precast concrete deck. CSL offered the client a precast alternative to the insitu concrete deck, which shortened the construction period by 9 weeks. The works involved working on a braided riverbed and constructing multiple river channel diversions to access the piers and spans with strict environmental conditions applied. CSL were able to deliver the project on time and within budget while maintaining the environmental and traffic controls.

Programme: The project was completed within the allocated project timeframe.

Budget: The project was completed within the tendered price.

Quality: A CSL Project Quality Plan was produced and followed in accordance with our ISO 9001 certification. There were no significant defects of remedial works required.

Health & Safety: Health and Safety Plan implemented and observed in accordance with the company’s secondary level requirements for ACC WSMP. There were zero LTIs or serious incidents.

Environmental: CSL was committed to providing comprehensive Environmental Management throughout the project, with protection of the River always the highest concern. Appropriate environmental protection measures, such as silt traps, spill procedures and careful management of construction materials ensured that all activities have been safely carried out within the environmental requirements of the Building Consent. There were no environmental incidents on this project.

Traffic Management: A specific traffic management plan was produced to control the movement of site traffic and machinery for this project.

Public Relations & Cooperative team approach: CSL had a good rapport with the main contractor, associated subcontractors and stakeholders. Work was well planned to minimize the impact on other operations within the site.

Management/Administration: All aspects of management requirements were met including reporting, communications, financial control and risk management.
